Eccleston Law has launched an investigation of Dunhill Investment Advisers and its owner Jerry A. Smith following felony charges of securities fraud and theft. Jerry A. Smith, through Dunhill Investment Advisers, is accused of running a $4.5 million Ponzi scheme.
Dunhill Investment Advisers held itself out a stock trading firm promised high rates of return at little risk to investors. According to securities regulators, the Ponzi scheme allegedly paid earlier investors with new investor funds, rather than from trading profits.
Jerry Smith, along with his counterpart Jasen Snelling, are believed to have operated the scheme through other names including CityFund Advisory, Mobius Trading and Dunhill Investments Advisors. Since 2007, the Ponzi scheme is believed to have bilked more than 40 victims in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana out of $4.5 million. Securites regulators believe that most of the $4.5 million was misappropriated and used for personal expenses, including to pay the salaries of the owners, to purchase a boat, pay off credit cards, and for plastic surgery.
